As we grow up..

“Bus is here!” Still holding tightly to the hand much bigger than hers and ran to stop the bus ahead. How many of us do actually still hold on to your mum’s hand and run after a bus together? There was once this sweet little girl, so innocent, so sweet and pure. Her eyes were always open, always sure, and everyone could just look right in. She could just cry when she lost her favourite toy, and her mum would give a hug consoling:” it’s alright, I will buy you another one” And when things went wrong, she would just sleep and woke up the next day like it never happened before. She dreamt of how it would be like when she grew up, how wonderful it is to speak like an adult and do what adults could do. Wearing heels that doesn’t fit and tripped at every step she took. Everyday it’s just her family, her friends in school and the times they spent together involving in her life. She shared almost everything like an open book and the word ‘Pretend’ doesn’t exist in her dictionary. But now, her heart just beats empty and cold, and not realising before, tears actually do have a taste to it. Mind and heart works together now and this process is call “Growing Up”. It’s just a process each of us has to go through. When you reach home after school, you don’t run to your mum and give her a hug anymore. When the bus is here, you don’t run for it. Instead you walk slowly for fear of other people looking at you while your mum is there chasing after the bus for you. You can’t rely on other people to make decision for you anymore, you have to decide yourself and the importances of it grow along with you. You used to share happenings around you when you get home, but now you just wish to be alone after a tiring day. And the day when you start to be sensible to the things around you, things just get more complicated. You get tired easily and often sit down and reminisce about the past. Doesn’t all this ring a bell to you, and the list could just go on and on. How often have we heard of the sentence “Where is that reset button to my life?” But we ought to know that once you hit the start button, there’s no such thing as a pause or restart button for you. You move along with time, where many times it just went ahead without you. And you realised how much you are losing during these times. Friends leave one after another, and your circles of friends shrink. But you came to your senses that as you grow, you don’t need a wide circle of friend, you just need that few that is true. As we grow up, much things change to what we don’t even recognise. A lot of times you will be there doubting things on which you did. Where’s that simplicity from the past you missed? And right now she’s standing there, all grown up. When I knew her back then, she was pure and innocent, before. |
